Overview
ASTM International’s Exo Technology Center of Excellence (ET CoE) is sponsoring the Exo Games, an in-person event, to improve student involvement and education in the exo technologies industry.
Join the Exo Games, hosted by and at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in Lancashire, England, to watch the students compete, learn about their design, and connect with the exo industry.
This competition includes university teams of S.T.E.M degree students, designed to connect them with exo industry professionals, help them build lifelong relationships, and get hands-on experience with new exo standards.
Seven teams of students will design, build, and test a self-contained exoskeleton from a project specification provided to them. From this specification they must produce a design solution, make it, test it with the predefined ASTM standards, and compete to win a grand prize.
Participating Teams
Clemson University, USA
Texas A&M University, USA
University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) and Imperial College London, UK
University of Lincoln (UoL), UK and IIT Gandhinagar (IITGN), India
University of Michigan, USA
Universidade Tecnologica Federal do Parana (UTFPR) and Pontificia Universidade Catolica (PUC), Brazil
Vrije Universitate Brussel, Belgium
Each team can use just one exoskeleton device at the competition, but all students who work on the challenge will benefit from the learning experience of applying their technical knowledge. The competition has four main areas for the teams to excel:
Main Competition - Design, build and test an exo technology device to compete with other teams. Each team will participate in four, physical tests consisting of Timed Up and Go (TUG), Bomb Squad Walk, Warehouse Palletizing, and Cup Stacking.
Design Competition - Teams will create a virtual prototype of the device and a physical design using sound principles with an acceptable appearance.
Poster Competition - Teams will produce a poster to publicize their work and demonstrate their ability to sell their design solution pictorially.
Presentation Competition - Presentations will explain the design and development of the device to demonstrate their verbal & presentational skills.
Awards
A cash prize will be awarded to first- and second-place winners, $5,000 and $1,000 respectively. ASTM reserves the right to award no prizes based on the determination of the judges.
The overall winning team will receive the prestigious Exo Games Trophy to keep for one year, or until the next competition, and a certificate. All members of the winning team will receive a replica trophy to keep, together with a certificate.
Other certificates will be awarded to participating team members.
